I can remember when I went to Bestival they were using bikes as a renewable/sustainable source of energy for people to charge there phones or even make smoothies on a bike-powered blender. I thought a great way to mix fitness and being green was to get fit and generate power at the same time. Here are a few examples:
When we were first told our brief for the Urban Bike Project and told to select a target user to focus on I could only think of one: the vegans. For the majority of my life I have been vegetarian however, I recently transitioned to being a full vegan in June of last year. I did a lot of research before making this change and found that veganism was not the weird, hippy stereotype that a lot of people associate it with and in fact there is an army of vegan's surrounding social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. Lots of people turn vegan for ethical reasons but a lot of people are jumping on-board the vegan wagon for the acclaimed health benefits and weight loss. Stars such as Sam Smith and Beyoncé swear by their vegan diets. Along with the food side a large population of the HCLF (High Carb Low Fat) vegan community chose cycling as their form of exercise to achieve that desired lean shape. Cycling is a very easy form of fitness for exercise newbies to get into because it doesn't seem like you are purposely working out. Cycling also pairs well with the sustainability and eco-friendliness of cycling compared to other modes of transport such as cars or buses. All in all, cycling is a form of transport perfectly suited for the health and eco-conscious. I, myself, am very interested in health and did a lot of cycling on a stationary bike last year to improve my fitness. I also am very interested in being green and therefore sustainable design hence why I have chosen this group to be my target user group. Target User Group // Health and Eco-Conscious Having chosen this target user group I decided to contact one of my favourite social media vegan's via Facebook as she is a keen cyclist and a bit of an eco warrior: Hannah Jarish (aka @HighCarbHannah on her social media platforms). She has over 69,000 subscribers alone on her YouTube channel not to mention all her other social medias. She and her husband are both keen cyclists who swapped out their car for full transportation using their bikes. She agreed to answer a few questions and I am currently waiting for her response. Bike messengers/couriers are also increasing in many cities worldwide partly due to the cost effectiveness and efficiency compared to power-driven vehicles and traditional delivery methods. Urban/city cycling has increased to where there is now a greater need for smart, effective solutions for the three most common issues relating to city cycling.
